R5 Windows – The New R5 Window Series
Win-Dor is excited to introduce its new R5 Series R5 window.
Like all of our products, the WinDor R5 Series window is built with the highest quality materials and extreme attention to detail. In fact, this window may just be the ultimate Window available.
This window offers:

This window system uses 3 window panes, also known as triple-glazing.
Three panes give us the ability to do more in between the panes. And that means less temperature transference from the outside in or the inside out. So you’ll save even more on your energy bills.
Three panes also allows us to use different thicknesses of glass, and these different thicknesses all transfer sound at different frequencies. When they are all different, outside noise is greatly reduced. This is great if you want to cut down on road noise.
And finally, this window system is constructed to handle an incredible amount of weight and weather. But we don’t want to bore you with all the engineering details – if you’d like to know more about this stuff, just call us and ask and we’ll tell you everything you could want to know.
If you are curious though, here are some pictures of the windows and our other products being tested. Notice how they bow in and out due to pressure – but they don’t break do they? And after this, they still open and shut as smoothly as they day they were installed.
What about R5? Why is the R-Value important?
Well, the building and construction industry uses a system which indicates a window’s thermal resistance and they refer to it as R-value or R-factor.
The system is based on a set of standards outlined by the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers.
The higher the R-value number, the better the window is at resisting heat. This is similar to, but not to be confused with, the R-value of home insulation.
How is R-Value Determined?
R-values are determined by five primary factors. They are:
- The number of glass layers used
- The amount of air space between each glass layer
- The type of glazing materials used
- The tightness of the installation
- The thermal resistance level of the materials used, including the spacers and frame
What Part of the Window does the R-Value Relate To?
The R-value is the heat resistance capabilities determined for the entire window – glass, frame and all.
Most of the windows on the market are rated R1, R2 and R3.
And that’s what makes WinDor’s new R5 window unique. In fact, it may be the strongest and most energy efficient window available and manufactured in the Western United States. Current testing demonstrates that we may be able to rate this window an R7!
The sash can be glazed with up to a 11⁄2” thick triple-pane that reaches a minimum R5 in it’s thermal properties.
High sound control ratings are also achieved with multiple combinations of glass and sound glass laminates.
